Hey everyone. Thank you for visiting my blog - really do appreciate your time and support. I can’t wait to share my stories, photos, vlogs, work-in-progress, videos, guides/tips/advices for hearing people, Deaf culture, my personal Deaf stories, and.. LIFE, and .. etc.
First things first : get to know bits and shits about me!
I am now 26 years old. My birthday is March 27, 1992. I am an Aries - independent, ambitious, and tough. I am hard-of-hearing : currently wear a cochlear implant on my right ear. To the hearing world, I personally identify myself as Deaf. I really am a Deaf person in hearing society.
I first went to Lafayette Elementary School (which had a Deaf/HH program) then transferred to Whitman Elementary then Hage Elementary –> homeschool –> Scripps Ranch High School, graduated in the year of 2010 then attended San Diego City College. I recently got accepted into CSUN. I look forward to FALL 2018 where I will be learning on speech, language, and audiology. I hope to become a deaf audiologist - to research more on technology, health risks, show proof and create a law that ASL is a required language for all hard of hearing babies/kids.
One thing I learned about myself is that I love learning new activities, skills. I did plenty of activities when I was kid thanks to Mom. Growing up, I did jazz dance in local dance studio “Dance Dimensions” in Mira Mesa which is now in PQ, did gymnastics at the REC Mira Mesa, ice-skating and ballet in SDIA. I became serious with ice-skating - I used to skate nearly everyday early morning, training. I remember how focused I was towards ice-skating and it made me become competitive. I’ve done more than a hundred competitions nationwide and had the opportunity to compete with California Theater on Ice in Toulouse, France. Now, I teach figure-skating at a local rink - Kroc Center Ice.
I am a dancer and performer. I took dance - modern and jazz at Scripps Ranch HS but it was all for funs and be with friends. Then I stopped for two years. When I entered City College, I rekindle my love for dance. I took modern, jazz, ballet, history of dance, choreography. I became a dance artist and performer - loved creating new pieces, improvisation, and performing other dance artist’s movements. The dance community here in SD inspired me greatly. I performed in San Diego Fringe Festival, Bay Area International Deaf Dance Festival, San Diego Deaf Dance Festival, LA Deaf Fashion Show, San Diego Young Choreographer Showcase, and etc. Currently, I am slowly getting back to dancing due to a recent ankle injury (right now, I am feeling stronger than before) - will continue to practice dance when I move to LA.
When I started City College, I thought I would study photography and become a professional photographer. But I lost interest in it and thought it’s a hobby of mine that I truly will hold on to for life. It all started when my Dad brought home his work camera which was a Nikon DSLR and I instantly fell in love with shooting little random things that we all take for granted. I was only 12. I remember my Dad introduced me to Adobe Photoshop and I became obsessed with messing my photos. During my teen years, I remember I would love sharing my work - taking self-portraits with my favorite trendy clothes then editing out the pictures to make it cool. I tried too hard ha ha. But honestly, I think I inspired a lot of people with my work. Photography became more popular and now it has become our daily thing. Though, Photography has taught me to appreciate the little shits in our lives and that life is precious! Capturing one slice at a time.
As of right now, I am learning how to skateboard. I bought my first board last year around August. I was pretty hooked - I didn’t have a car for nearly a year and so I used my skateboard to commute around San Diego. This has truly helped me get comfortable on cruising. I love cruising everywhere now! Then around January, I started skating in skate parks - first was City Heights skate park then Chicano park where I first met my love, Raymond. He is truly a sweetheart and super silly… but so so great at skating and a tough person. Now, I enjoy skating around San Diego skate parks with Raymond. I will be sharing some mini videos of me and him skating (mostly him).
Social life - its been ups and downs. Sometimes, I really do love going out, drink, dance, meet new people, and go to bars. But other times, I love being alone and be in my own world. There’s nothing wrong with that right? As a Deaf girl, it can be extremely overwhelming being in hearing society. I sometimes get burn out, my mind gets exhausted, start feeling emotional, left out, and question myself. So, I try to balance it out - less going out, meet with Deaf/HH friends, hang out with people that knows ASL, hang out with hearing friends in quiet settings. Will go into detail in the future soon.
I can’t wait to share many more.
Love,
Angela Bajet
